We seek
to "brighten a corner" in a child's life by providing basic
necessities that are often taken for granted in the United States, but
have the capacity to change a child's life and future in Romania.
We have established
three major goals to guide our efforts:
- To reduce
the number of children forced to leave home by easing the financial
burden of their families by providing meals, donated clothing, and
other items.
- To ensure
children's hunger does not prevent them from continuing their education.
- To ensure
that preschool children receive the nutrition necessary for healthy
growth and development.
We are committed
to these goals and believe that they are attainable, sustainable, and
will provide the chance for a brighter future.
Currently
Carter's Corner is serving 79 children and their families in the village
of Tancabesti outside of Bucharest. Our future goals include:
- Establishing
a before and after school program for the children of Tancabesti as well
as a summer program where they will have access to structured activities,
educational opportunities, and healthy meals.
- Establishing
a program for preschool children where they will receive healthy
meals and stimulating activities to help prepare them for school.
- Expanding
the current food and clothing program to other villages and establishing
preschool, summer, and after school programs.
